I wish to dedicate this day to the mothers I have met since the first SAR mission in 2014, launched soon after MOAS’ inception.

Exhausted, scared because of the violence they have experienced and the uncertainty about their future, they embody bravery and resilience in their determination to protect their children.

They face danger and long journeys, fighting against death, just to offer safety, peace and a better life to their children.

When I see a mother rescued the MOAS crew I see myself with my daughter because -as I have said million times- even if there are hundreds of reasons dividing us, there will always be one thing uniting us: we are all human.

My wish for this Mother’s Day is that each mother, all over the world, can stop being afraid for her life and the lives of her children.

I hope from the bottom of my heart that our world will finally learn peace from the bravery of those mothers who do not surrender to war and violence.
